About this project In St. Charles, MnDOT plans to replace the Hwy 74 bridge over the South Fork Whitewater River. The bridge is aging, and it is time to remove and replace it. The new bridge will look like the existing bridge, but with newer, modern components. This will help preserve the historic route status of Hwy 74. The new bridge will also have a wider shoulder. This will make using the bridge more comfortable for bicyclists and pedestrians. It will also give agricultural and large vehicles more room. The project will also prepare facilities for a trail. It will be under the bridge on the north side of the river. This will connect with a future trail the City of St. Charles is building. The project is included in the State's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
