The Third Street Complete Street Project is revitalizing an important transportation corridor between Downtown Nanaimo, Vancouver Island University (VIU), and key recreational amenities, to better serve pedestrians, cyclists, transit users, and vehicles alike. The Project will replace aging underground utilities, improve drainage, enhance safety, and support the City's vision for sustainable and accessible transportation infrastructure. The Project scope includes the replacement of water, sanitary, and storm utilities; full road reconstruction incorporating Complete Street features; intersection and pedestrian safety upgrades; street lighting and electrical improvements; landscaping enhancements; and installation of conduits to accommodate future City fibre optic network expansion.
