Renovation of a theater / auditorium in New York, New York. Conceptual plans call for the renovation of a theater / auditorium.
The Black Box Theater renovation will create a modern, versatile performance and instructional space. Key upgrades include improved acoustics, soundproofing, durable finishes, advanced lighting and rigging, and cutting-edge audiovisual systems. Modern, comfortable seating, an optimized layout for audience experience and ADA compliance, and an updated control room with advanced equipment are also planned. This renovation will provide a high-quality, multifunctional space reflecting the college's commitment to education and the arts. The project is included in The City University of New York's FY 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of August 27, 2025, information regarding a design firm and the general contractor selection timeline has not been disclosed. Although a firm timeline has not been determined, fiscal year funding is not expected to start prior to fiscal year 2028-2029. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
