Replace Main Street of Z Brick's With an Asphalt Surface. The Primary Roadway on Roosevelt Island, Which Functions as the Main Artery for All Vehicular Traffic, is Currently Surfaced With Z Bricks That Exceeded Their Intended Lifespan, Leading To Areas of Sinking and Creating Hazardous Conditions. The Planned Improvements Include Replacing the Existing Surface With Asphalt, Installing Concrete Pads for Transit Buses, and Enhancing Pedestrian Crosswalks to Improve Safety. This Project Will Provide a More Resilient, Long Term Infrastructure Solution for the Island. Construction Will Involve the Removal of the Existing Z Brick Surface Along Approximately One Mile of the Island's Main Street. The Result Will Be a Safer Pedestrian and Vehicular Main Street Roadway. The Distance of Main Street Included in the Project is Slightly Over One Mile From the Helix to the Blackwell Park Turnaround. The Project Also Includes the Development of an Island Traffic Master Plan, a Gis Mapping System, and Wayfinding Study.
