NASA/SSC requires major restoration and replacement of generators at the SSC Test Complex, which connect to the 13.8kV high voltage system and provide backup power. The scope includes replacing four existing 1.5MW, 4160V generators at Building B-4400 with new 480V generators of lesser capacity, configured as 2x1750kW to deliver up to 3.5MW of emergency power. The existing generators will not be removed, and existing 4160VAC transformers will remain. A load study will be performed to verify generator sizing. The contractor will provide all necessary equipment, including a 15kV breaker, 480V step-up transformers, NEMA 3R low voltage switchgear, relays, and other components to connect the new generators to the high voltage switchyard. Generators will include day-tanks and be connected to existing diesel storage tanks via new piping and transfer pumps, with elevated metal platforms for maintenance access. Provisions will be made to connect a spare or portable generator. The new generators must integrate with the site Emergency Management and Control System (EMCS) and the B-4400 Control Room for monitoring, and be capable of synchronizing with the utility. They will serve as emergency backup only. Additional work includes replacing knife-blade switches on Circuits 11 and 21 with Gang-Operated Air Break (GOAB) switches, and replacing sand fuses feeding B-4400 480VAC transformers 400A and 400B with modern fuses.
