Demolition, site work, paving and new construction of a bridge / tunnel in Rockford, Illinois. Conceptual plans call for the demolition of a bridge / tunnel; for the construction of a bridge / tunnel; for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
The Auburn Street Bridge over Kent Creek was built in 1930 and had its deck beams replaced in 1988. The bridge has deteriorated to the point of needing replacement. The City will be seeking funding assistance through the State’s Surface Transportation Program– Bridges to design and construction a replacement for this structure. The project is included in the City's 2025-2029 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of August 13, 2025, project letting in Fall 2025 and construction in 2026. Project is in planning/design. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP). A CIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the CIP often evolves based on funding availability and the project details, including timeline and value, are subject to change.
