General 1.01 Project Description and Location Project Name: Bridge Replacement and Improvement of Sheep Pasture Road over the LIRR & Intersection Improvements at Bayview Avenue and Willis Avenue extension, Town of Brookhaven, Suffolk County, New York. PIN: 0762.30 Project Description: The Town of Brookhaven is seeking to improve safety and mobility in the hamlet of Port Jefferson Station and the Village of Port Jefferson, Suffolk County, NY. Sheep Pasture Road is an east-west rural minor arterial roadway which provides access between the Village, Port Jefferson Station, Stony Brook, and Setauket-East Setauket, and NYS Route 25A, NYS Route 347 and SC Route 97. The existing Sheep Pasture Road Bridge, which carries vehicular traffic over the Long Island Railroad (LIRR- Port Jefferson Branch), is a timber bridge built in 1906. The existing 5-span timber bridge consists of one 12-foot lane and a 0.5-foot curb offset in each direction. The existing bridge includes timber curbing and steel box-beam bridge railings on either side with no sidewalk, shoulder, or pedestrian access. There are no signalized intersections within the project area. There are Stop signs on both sides of the bridge, controlling traffic flow through the area and side streets.
