Tajiguas is located in the County of Santa Barbara and situated within the Canada de la Pila, a small coastal canyon on the southern flank of the Santa Ynez Mountains. Tajiguas is located approximately one-quarter mile north of Highway 101, which provides access to the site. Since operation began, the Anaerobic Digestion Facility (ADF) has experienced operational slowdowns caused by siloxane buildup in the CHP engines. The Project involves a part of the ADF biogas treatment system, and consists of upgrading the existing hydrogen sulfide (H2S) treatment system to better remove siloxanes. In the first phase, the consultant will re-design the H2S treatment vessels' stainless steel piping from its current in-parallel configuration, to an in-series configuration. In the second phase, the consultant will develop recommendations for possible testing of different filtering media to maximize H2S and Siloxane removal. The ADF produces biogas with a fluctuating average of ~500 SCFM. This flowrate could increase in the near future on account of ongoing organics diversion efforts. The source of the biogas' pressure comes from the digesters, which is assisted by a blower downstream of the filtering vessels providing additional pressure required for the CHP engines. The consultant will ensure that positive pressure is maintained between the treatment vessels once arranged in series. Construction of the project will be competitively bid. The construction contract is anticipated to be awarded in early February 2026 with work starting March 1, 2026. The contractor has 63 working days to complete the project. The subject project will be constructed concurrently with other work or projects at the landfill including operations at the ADF, daily landfill operations, and other general civil improvements.
