Substation Beam Repair THE CITY OF GLENDALE IS CURRENTLY SOLICITING QUOTES FOR BEAM REPAIR AT THE BEL AIRE SUBSTATION AS PER ATTACHED SPECIFICATIONS. THE CITY RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ACCEPT OR REJECT QUOTATIONS ON EACH ITEM SEPARATELY OR AS A WHOLE, AND TO REJECT ANY OR ALL QUOTATIONS. Question Deadline 09/12/2025 at 11:00 AM PT All Questions Regarding This Bid Must Be Submitted on the Online Contractor Shall Provide All Labor, Tools, Material, Equipment, Supplies, Testing, and Other Related Needs For the Removal of the Mortar Wrap and Full Exposure of the Steel Beam at the Bel Aire Substation as Requested and Figure #1, #2, #3, and #4. The Contractor Shall: B 1.1. Background During an Inspection of Substation B, Damage Was Identified in a Structural Beam Located Within the Underground Portion of the Facility. The Substation Includes a Belowgrade Reinforced Concrete Structure Approximately 30 Feet Deep, With a Concrete Roof Slab at Grade Level. The Damaged Beam Spans Approximately 20 Feet, Serving as a Connection Between the Retaining Wall and the Roof Deck. It is Positioned in Line With the Primary Roof Girders and Plays a Critical Role in Supporting the Structural System. (See Figures 1 and 2). B 1.2. Inspection Summary The Beam is a Steel Wide Flange Girder, Oriented Horizontally and Encased in Mortar Reinforced With Wire Mesh. At Both Ends, Concrete Spalling Has Exposed Rusted Wire Mesh and Significantly Corroded Steel Components. The Beam is Connected to the Retaining Wall and Roof Structure via End Plates, Bolts, and Embedded Anchorages, All of Which Show Signs of Severe Corrosion. While Full Connection Details Are Obscured by Cracked Mortar, It is Assumed the Beam is Anchored With Cast-in-place Connections. One End (Shown in Figure 3) is Partially Exposed; the Other End Remains Covered but It is Assumed to Have a Similar Configuration. B 1.3. Requirements B 1.3.1 Safely Remove the Existing Mortar and Wire Wrap From the Steel Beam. See Figure 4. B 1.3.2 Fully Expose the Steel Beam While Ensuring the Integrity of the Steel Structural is Preserved. B 1.3.3 Properly Store and Dispose of All Debris in Compliance With Local Regulations. Implement Appropriate Best Management Practices (Bmps) to Comply With Stormwater Regulations (E.g. Placing Sandbags Around Any Storm Drain Inlets Within the Work Area, Especially if Waste Materials Are Stored Aboveground). If Construction Spoil Will Be Left on the Ground for an Extended Period, It Should Be Covered. Additionally, Ensure That No Water Runs Over Cement Waste Material Stored on Site to Prevent Contamination of Stormwater Systems. B 1.3.4 Adhere to All Necessary Safety Precautions and Site Access Requirements.
