The renovation and expansion of the existing facility. The building serves as both a short-term detention facility and magistrate court and does not adequately serve the needs of this function. This building will be occupied and remain in use during construction activities; will be phased to accommodate law enforcement functions during construction. The existing structure was previously Corpus Christi Fire Department Station No. 5 with a garage to accommodate two (2) truck bays and associated fire station components. It is a wood and structural tile framed building on concrete foundation. The expansion will likely consist of concrete foundations and a combination of steel, wood and concrete masonry. The existing structure is a single-story building, approximately 4,000 square feet. The building expansion is expected to increase the area by approximately 2,500 square feet and will include a new sallyport and other administrative functions. The project site includes new paving around the building and a new parking area on an adjacent lot acquired by the city. Perimeter fencing, a backup generator, and landscaping are also included.
