Renovation of an educational facility in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Completed plans call for the renovation of a one-story above grade educational facility.
Vaughan Henry Frieze Public Health Building Elevated Walkway Repairs - Bidpack 01 Construction Submit a proposal for Elevated Walkway Repairs at the Vaughan Henry Frieze Public Health Building (Building Number 1000204, U-M Project Number P00021672). Bidders must submit proposals electronically to the provided email address; bids delivered to any other location will be rejected. Invited bidders must attend a mandatory pre-bid meeting/tour as failure to attend will result in refusal and return of the bid. Subcontractors or suppliers interested in the work should contact the invited bidders. Invited bidders will receive electronic copies (PDFs) of the bidding documents free of charge and will be given account access via their corporate email address. Hard copies may be purchased directly from designated printing firms. Bidding documents are also available for reference at multiple builders exchanges and associations. If declining to bid, promptly email a declination message referencing the project name and number to the specified address within one week of invitation. The owner reserves the right not to proceed with the project, to reject any or all proposals, and to waive informalities in bidding. Proposal withdrawal is prohibited for sixty days after the opening of proposals. The University of Michigan will ensure that diverse business enterprises are afforded full opportunity to submit a bid and will not be discriminated against. As of October 1, 2025, this project has prevailing wage requirements. Construction is anticipated to start April 2026 and complete September 2026. Question Deadline 10/24/2025 No questions or inquiry relative to interpretation of bidding documents will be entertained within the last three (3) days before the bid due date. Any explanation desired by Bidders must be requested of the Design Professional in writing All questions and inquiries regarding the Project must be directed to: Charles Smith, Project Manager - AEC, University of Michigan, cbssmith@umich.edu Hayder Al-Hilal, Soil and Materials Engineers Inc, hayder al-hilal hayder.al-hilal@sme-usa.com Paul Darling, Design Manager - AEC, University of Michigan, pdarling@umich.edu major aspects of the base bid work include, but are not limited to: 1. general: a. coordinate project activities with owner, architect/engineer, city of ann arbor, and any other designated project representatives. b. coordinate securement of and pay for space/equipment rental fees, material, and labor necessary to perform the work. c. provide appropriate temporary protection and enclosures for work and redirection of traffic around designated areas to be coordinated with owner. d. provide all equipment, engineering support, materials and labor necessary to provide an acceptable method of fall protection during work. 2. walkway deck repairs: a. replace concrete topping. b. install waterproofing system with a protection and drainage board with proper transitions at the expansion joint along the north side, and south side stair as well as penetrations. c. remove brick veneer and at piers to install wall flashing system consisting of a concealed sheet metal flashing drip with rubberized asphalt flashing membrane to extend a minimum of 8-inches onto the back-up wall. d. remove, salvage and reinstall railing. 3. walkway fascia and suspended ceiling repairs: a. remove metal siding system and suspended ceiling to expose walkway framing elements. b. remove spray applied fireproofing and recoat corroded walkway framing elements to limits indicated on drawings. reapply spray fireproofing. c. install composite metal siding system with proper metal flashing at deck waterproofing-to-metal siding termination. d. install suspended ceiling consisting of 5/8-inch glass gypsum board with direct-applied exterior finish system. e. replace lighting fixtures as indicated on drawings. 4. at grade waterproofing and wall flashing repairs: a. remove sufficient concrete topping to allow for proper waterproofing transition onto threshold, brick wall, and beam pockets of the tunnel ceiling deck below. b. install waterproofing system with a protection and drainage board with proper wall flashing. the wall flashing to extend from the angled door to the elevated walkway south entry door. c. replace concrete topping. 5. clean and seal brick veneer at piers and south and north entry ways. 6. alternate 1: remove elevated walkway and support columns except for the columns and beams at ends. this includes: a. fill transitions from demolished walkway to existing walls and concrete pavement to match existing. patch waterproofing at removed column locations. b. construct two canopies over ground floor entrances on either side of the demolished walkway. c. replace exit doors with curtain walls. d. install additional light poles in courtyard. 7. alternate 2: reinstall missing trim rings at steel pipe columns. clean and recoat columns.
