Demolition and site work for an educational facility in Hyden, Kentucky. Completed plans call for the demolition of a 41,000-square-foot, one-story above grade educational facility.

Qualified bidders are invited to submit bids for the Old Hyden Elementary School Abatement Project, which involves asbestos abatement on the site selected for the construction of the Leslie County Judicial Center Project. The project requires the furnishing of all labor, materials, supplies, tools, services, appliances, equipment, and other necessities to complete the work as specified and shown on the drawings prepared by the Design Professional. The award will be made to the lowest responsive bid by a responsive, responsible bidder. The Owner reserves the right to reject any and all bids and to waive informalities and irregularities. Sealed bids must be submitted in a clearly marked envelope, including the official bid form, required bid bond, and disclosure statements. All bids must be accompanied by a bid guarantee of not less than ten percent of the base bid. Performance and payment bonds equivalent to 100% of the contract price are required. Bids must remain firm for sixty days after opening, with the possibility of a thirty-day extension if requested by the Owner. SUMMARY OF WORK: A. Base Bid: The following building materials must be removed prior to renovation activities: 1. Leslie County Old Hyden Elementary. i. Remove and dispose of approximately 41,000 square feet of floor tile and asbestos-containing black mastic throughout the building (see drawing ACM-1, ACM-2 & ACM 3 for locations). Abatement Contractor shall be responsible for moving furnishings and other items as needed (includes removal of cove base). ii. Remove and dispose of approximately 15 asbestos-containing pipe joints in the boiler room. (see drawing ACM-1 for locations). iii. Remove and dispose of asbestos-containing 2 fire doors on the second floor. (see drawing ACM-2 for locations) iv. Remove and dispose of transite soffit & window panels around the building perimeter (window panels and sandwiched between metal sheets: There are 16 (3' x 4') window panels There are 67 (5' x 4') window panels There are 5 (4' x 4') window panels There is 1 (4' x 4') transite soffit panel v. Remove and dispose of chalkboard glue dots (78 chalkboards, 5,000 sf) throughout the classrooms in the building. (see drawing ACM-1, ACM-2 & ACM 3 for locations) vi. Disposal of the following identified hazarddous building materials: Component 470 Fluorescent light fixtures (ballasts & tubes) 27 Wall-mounted emergency & exit lights Special Note 1: Asbestos and hazardous building material quantities are estimates that have been provided for assistance in bidding. Interested Contractors are tofield verify all quantities, conditions, dimensions, etc. related to this project prior to bidding. Any failure by the Contractor to acquaint himself with all the available information concerning these conditions will not relieve him from responsibility for estimating properly the difficulty or cost of successfully performing the Work.
