Demolition, site work, new construction and renovation of a mixed-use development in Santa Barbara, California. Conceptual plans call for the demolition of a fitness / recreation center; for the construction of a fitness / recreation center; for the renovation of a fitness / recreation center; for site work for a fitness / recreation center; and playground / park / athletic field.
The purpose of this project is to develop a new multi-purpose recreation campus to serve a broad cross section of Santa Barbara residents. The center would include both indoor and outdoor recreation opportunities such as courts and ball fields, dance/exercise rooms, and community meeting facilities for all ages, ranging from youth to seniors. The facility would be developed in partnership with other recreation and community organizations and designed through extensive public outreach and community discussion. It is assumed that the facility would be located on existing City Park and recreation designated property and the parcels that comprise Spencer Adams Park, Louise Lowry Davis Center, and the 1235 Teen Center. The project is included in the City's 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of January 20, 2026, per the owner, no design work has commenced for this project, and the city is many years away from any construction.
