This project focuses on upgrading the upstream boat launch in Botterill Bottom Park, located above the weir. The site presents several operational and safety challenges, especially during low-water conditions. Key issues include a steep and narrow concrete ramp, insufficient ramp extension into the river, poor traction due to silt and mud, limited maneuvering space, inadequate lighting, and frequent equipment damage. These deficiencies hinder emergency operations and vehicle access, requiring the need for targeted improvements. The City of Lethbridge is seeking a qualified contractor to complete the replacement of a deteriorated boat launch, in the Oldman River at Botterill Bottom Park. The scope includes installing a temporary inflatable cofferdam, demolition of the existing boat launch, installation of new precast concrete ramps, and renewal of the existing vehicle approach. The scope of work will include, but is not limited to, the following: General: “Prime Contractor” role and responsibilities Project management and site supervision Coordination of activities, personnel & subcontractors Site access and staging plans Utility locates Attendance of and participation in construction and safety meetings Schedule management and delay mitigation Quality control, including testing and reporting as required Risk identification and mitigation Traffic, pedestrian and park user accommodation Interpretation of the design Safeguarding of the work areas including signage and worksite perimeter fencing for open excavations Survey requirements Environmental protection measures Mobilization and Site Setup: Mobilize materials and equipment, obtain all necessary permits and approvals from regulatory agencies. Demolition and Removal Install a temporary inflatable cofferdam in the Oldman River, remove and dispose of existing boat launch structure, strip topsoil, and excavate surrounding approach. Site Preparation and Grading Excavate riverbank and subgrade to specified design depth, place imported clay fill, place imported granular material and install clay plug. New Structure Construction Install new precast concrete boat launch panels complete with granular to specified design grades. Approach Construction Construct new granular approach at the top of the ramp to ensure a smooth transition from the surface, install new light standard complete with cast in place concrete base and signage, and complete topsoil and seed around perimeter. New Lighting Install new cast in place concrete base, light pole, fixture and associated hardware. Site Restoration and Cleanup Remove temporary inflatable cofferdam, completely clean work site, dispose of waste materials, and demobilize all equipment following final inspection.
