BACKGROUND The Township has been taking steps in recent years to create a safer pedestrian environment through the Implementation of crossing guards, flashing pedestrian walkways signs, and bollards at intersection surrounding the Townships multiple schools. In a continued effort to keep moving forward in this Township wide goal, funding through the DOT Safe Routes to Schools Grant was secured for this project which proposes the construction of new walkway along Snyder Avenue, particularly within the vicinity of Hughes School, along with the pathway connecting to Old Cannon Road to promote safe walking conditions and encourage more students to walk to/from school. The Township also wants to increase the miles of sidewalk within the Municipality in order to provide pedestrians with a safe place so that parents and children feel safer and are more willing to walk.
