New construction of a fitness / recreation center in Chester, Nova Scotia. Design plans call for the construction of a fitness / recreation center.
Construction of a new multi-purpose recreation facility. The facilities that need to be replaced include an ice hockey arena with spectator seating and dressing rooms, a curling rink with 4 sheets of curling ice, kitchen and food service space. Additional facilities for consideration include a practice hockey rink, walking track, multi-use space, sports courts, indoor soccer, indoor aquatics, and commercial/event service space. The proposed facility may be co-located with new administration office space for the municipality. Scope of work to be determined. TIMELINE: Conceptual planning is ongoing. Owner is exploring options to determine the scope of work. Community engagement process is ongoing; a council meeting is targeted by late fall 2026 for some direction. To date, there has been no financial commitment and there are no construction timelines. Further update early 2027.
