Guardrail Districtwide D7 2026 Reimbursable Guardrail County: District 7 1. It is the intent of this project to repair and/or replace damaged guardrail in accordance with the specifications described herein or as directed by the Engineer. 2. Depending upon the extent of the work required at a particular site, the Department will determine if replacement and/or repair will be undertaken on a linear foot basis or an individual component basis. 3. The Contractor will be responsible for coordination of contract work with utilities when they are involved and/or in conflict. The contractor has full responsibility for any or all damage to any utility or lighting system caused by installation activities. 4. Department personnel will mark the beginning points and ending points of the work. 5. The Department reserves the right to determine and assign priorities for work on the various sections of damaged guardrail and/or protective barrier in existence at any given time. Any shoulder shaping required before placing guardrail will be performed by Department personnel. 6. The Contractor will be required to fill all vacated post holes before leaving project 7. All damaged guardrail will become the property of the contractor and will be removed from the site at the end of the working day. Cost of removing damaged guardrail or components shall be incidental to the various items in the contract. 8. Rail elements installed on existing posts and blocks shall be realigned as directed by the Engineer at no additional cost to the Department. If an existing post has to be removed and reset, as determined by the Engineer, payment will be made under Item 607051-001, Remove and Reset Guardrail Post. 9. The traffic control plan to be used for each site will be as directed by the Engineer. 10. A traffic control site is defined as one or more segments of guardrail work within a length, on either side of the highway, of 1000 feet or less. Proposals will be received from prequalified and West Virginia licensed contractors only except that on Federal-Aid Projects a contractors' license is not required at time of bid, but will be required before work can begin. Registration is required with the Department of Administration, Division of Purchasing, in accordance with Chapter 5A, Article 3, Section 12 of the West Virginia Code. All contractors submitting bids on project(s) must submit electronically with their bid a Proposal Guaranty Bond for $500.00 or 5% of the total bid, whichever is greater. The West Virginia Department of Transportation, Division of Highways reserves the right to defer, delay or postpone the date for receiving and publicly opening proposals for any project designated in this advertisement, without the necessity of renewing such advertisement. All bidders holding valid bidding proposals will be notified of such deferment, delay or postponement and the date that proposals will be received and publicly opened.
