Site work and paving for a bridge / tunnel in Juniata, Nebraska. Conceptual plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel; and for paving for a bridge / tunnel.
The project consists of bank stabilization along three separate reaches (3-Sites) along the Little Blue River to protect three waterway bridge crossings and associated transportation infrastructure currently at risk due to encroaching bank erosion. Bank stabilization efforts will occur near S Showboat Blvd (Site 1), S Pawnee Ave (Site 2), and Antioch Ave (Site 3). The project will address accelerated erosion that is putting bridge abutments and roadway embankments in structural jeopardy.The preferred improvements involve trenching and placement of rock riprap, installed as buried trench fill and longitudinal peaked stone toe protection on the eroding banks. Additional riprap will be placed under bridge abutments for slope protection to prevent further scour. Grading will also be conducted to install and protect the rock riprap. The riprap placement for bank armoring will be within the 100-year, but not the 500-year floodplain, and will impact onsite wetlands.Permanent wetland and ordinary high water mark (OHWM) impacts are anticipated at each site as follows: Site 1: 0.012 acres of wetlands and 0.008 acres (278 linear feet) of OHWM; Site 2: 0.049 acres of wetlands and 0.009 acres (72 linear feet) of OHWM; Site 3: 0.074 acres of wetlands and 0.204 acres (463 linear feet) of OHWM. The proposal does not impact the 100-year or 500-year floodplain.
