The requirements and activities involve performing hydraulic dredging over and around an existing water intake pipe located approximately 330 linear feet into the Catawba River from the City of Belmont’s Raw Water Intake Pump Station. The operation aims to remove accumulated sediment over the intake screen at the end of the pipe to maintain water flow capacity and ensure uninterrupted operation. Objectives include restoring designed flow rates, protecting the intake pipe's structural integrity, and safely transporting and disposing of dredged material according to environmental regulations at an offsite landfill. The excavation area is 34 by 72 feet at a depth of approximately 7.5 feet, graded upward at a 4:1 slope with around 2,000 cubic yards to be excavated, consisting of sandy clay loam. Scope of activities includes securing permits, notifying relevant parties, marking the intake pipe, daily notifications to the treatment plant, mobilizing equipment, installing environmental protection measures, and placing high-visibility floats on hoses for boater safety.
