CR#:2129583 The corridor to be evaluated is along South Main Street (NY 22), between Broadway and Shushan Road, which is approximately a 1-mile segment. Beginning in the northern section, existing sidewalks are found on both sides of South Main Street until White Creek, then sidewalk continues on the west side of South Main Street until Archibald Street. From Archibald Street south, there are no pedestrian facilities. The roadway is posted at 30mph within the study area. The catalyst for this project is development occuring south of the core commercial and residential district. The recent opening of Hudson Headwaters Salem Family Health, and with the pending consolidation of the Glens Falls Health Care facility on North Main Street, the sidewalk extension will accommodate users by providing alternative transportation options to access the new urgent care facility. The Dollar General, which serves as a primary retailer for basic needs, is also located within this sidewalk gap, along with other residential generators. The Town of Salem and NYSDOT Region 1 will work collaboratively throughout the course of this study to ensure that NYSDOT, as the roadway owner, is included in the development of recommendations and implementation plans. he project will include public and stakeholder engagement, ensuring that residents and business owners have opportunities to provide input. Finally, the study will prepare cost South Main Street Sidewalk Feasibility Study estimates for implementation, including potential phasing and funding opportunities, to guide the Town in advancing the recommended improvements.
