The signage projects involve the need for statewide improvements of signage, which is inclusive of, but are notlimited to, new installations, maintenance of existing signs and sign upgrades based on a traffic study, federal nighttime reflectivity requirements, and Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) compliance. The goal is to enhance safety via clear instructions to drivers and compliance with the MUTCD as well as to enable both residents and visitors to have a clear path with appropriate signage in order to enhance driver behavior by eliminating confusion. The pavement marking program is normally funded through the operating budget, but portions of these capital funds will be used to, but not are limited to, install new striping applications, maintaining existing striping, and implementing/maintaining RPM's statewide. Select activities within this program can also qualify to be 100% federally eligible under 23 USC 120(C). Project Justification: This program is a core requirement of the federal transportation legislation and the projects and improvements are federally participating. The programs, its Special Rule, and improvements provide for safer roadways and help to achieve the goals of the Delaware Strategic Highway Safety Plan. As of April 28, 2026, the Project is in Final Planning Status. Anticipated letting Year is 2026. DEDOT -Signage and Pavement Markings *Project information has been obtained through a public state transportation improvement plan (STIP). A STIP is a financial schedule for short- and long-range projects which is updated regularly. Information listed in the STIP often evolves based on funding availability.
