Renovation of a military facility in Vanderhoof, British Columbia. Completed plans call for the renovation of a military facility.
The Ministry of Forest is seeking proposals from qualified Proponents with the capability and capacity to undertake a retrofit project at the VanJam Fire Zone base in Vanderhoof, BC. The scope of work involves the removal of the existing bi-fold hangar door and the installation of a new framed wall section. The proponent will be responsible for planning and executing this work, which will incorporate four overhead, garage-style rollup doors and five fixed windows. The retrofit is designed to enhance operational efficiency, reduce ongoing maintenance requirements, and improve weather resilience during winter operations in Climate Zone 6. The fixed windows will be non-operable and sized to match existing windows in the building, serving to increase natural light within the hangar space. The existing bi-fold door has become increasingly unreliable, with numerous mechanical issues including repeated cable failures. These failures could easily lead to situations where the door cannot be closed at the end of the day, which would leave the hangar exposed to weather and vulnerable to theft or unauthorized access. This poses a significant operational and security risk, especially during wildfire season when equipment must be protected and readily accessible. Replacing the door with a more secure, durable, and weather-resistant system will: Improve daily operational efficiency; Reduce long-term maintenance costs; Enhance thermal integrity and site security; and Ensure reliable access during winter conditions.
