The work involves installation of fire hydrants and valve boxes to final grade, as well as permanent restoration of all disturbed areas and removal of existing fire hydrants after the new watermain is in service. Existing fire hydrant leads and valves are to be abandoned in place once the new watermain is operational. The scope includes the supply and installation of 100 mm diameter and larger water service pipe, copper tracer wire, and all necessary appurtenances. Water and fire service connections must comply with the Region of Halton standard detail drawing RH 409.010. Abandoned large diameter water service valves must have their valve boxes removed and the excavation backfilled. Installation of water services or hydrant leads at locations where open cut trenching is not feasible must use a tunnel method such as tunnelling, boring, or directional drilling, including providing shop drawings, excavation, dewatering, test pits, sheathing, shoring, utility support, watermain blocking, supply and installation of unshrinkable backfill, and temporary and permanent restoration of affected areas. The hydrant set installation includes a fire hydrant from Halton's Approved Manufacturers Products List, a 150 mm anchor tee and isolation valve, a valve box as per Halton's specifications, 150 mm PVC pipe from the main to the hydrant, zinc anodes with tracer wire, supports and restrainers, required bends, and hydrant extensions as necessary.
