The Central Vehicle Maintenance Facility (CVMF) Building 200 provides backup power to support essential operations, including dispatching from CVMF, 311 services, and security. These services are vital not only to the day-to-day functioning of CVMF but also to the overall operations of the City of Rochester. The existing generator, installed in 2006, has begun to exhibit significant signs of aging and deterioration. In recent years, it has required frequent oil replenishment -- about every two months -- due to excessive oil consumption. The unit has also developed extensive corrosion as a result of its proximity to the onsite salt shed. Furthermore, its location adjacent to the main drive aisle exposes it to constant road spray from frequent vehicle traffic, accelerating wear and reducing reliability. Because of these factors, the materials and protective measures for a replacement generator must be carefully considered. To address these issues, the City is seeking proposals for the replacement and modernization of the emergency power systems serving Building 200. The objective is to ensure reliable backup power, enhance system resiliency, and provide greater protection against environmental conditions. This effort will include replacing the existing natural gas generator with a modern, properly sized, and efficient unit that incorporates weather-resistant housing or other protective enclosures. In addition, the scope of work involves replacing the transfer switch and associated cabling to ensure safe and reliable performance. An evaluation of the existing roll-up generator connections will be required to determine their condition, feasibility, and potential for integration into the new system.
