Renovation of a 20,000 SF 2-story 1938 historic armory to enhance resilience against future floods and disasters. The building is constructed of masonry, steel, and wood. Exterior work includes replacing the roof, repairing masonry walls, replacing windows and doors, and adding new lighting. The 14,400 SF main level interior renovation includes new masonry walls, refurbished restrooms and kitchen, new resilient finishes, new fire sprinkler system, and new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The 5,600 SF upper level will remain mostly unchanged and unoccupied for public use, with new mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment located here and modifications to infill discarded openings and add new utility access. Bidders must provide a bid deposit or bid bond equal to five percent of the total bid, and successful bidders must execute the contract and provide required bonds within ten days after notice of award. Bidders must be appropriately licensed as contractors in North Carolina and comply with all applicable laws, ordinances, and regulations. Bidders are responsible for inspecting the site and reviewing all bidding documents and addenda. The Town of Canton encourages participation from historically underutilized businesses (HUB) and requires bidders to make a good faith effort to utilize minority businesses and comply with the Town's Minority Business Participation Outreach Plan.
