The city is responsible for the operations and maintenance of over 200 municipal facilities, structures, and assets with various uses including office, warehouse, storage, parking, vehicle maintenance, communication towers, and public safety. Mechanical engineering design services are needed on an as-needed basis for maintenance or minor renovation projects across the entire facility portfolio. Typical requests may include the design and installation of new or replacement HVAC equipment associated with air- or water-cooled chillers, split, unitary, and rooftop systems, heat pumps, and geothermal systems. Plumbing expertise for the distribution of hot water and chilled water is essential for some systems. Smaller renovation projects may include sink and water fountain additions. Additional work may involve investigation and scoping studies related to mechanical systems to address comfort and/or operations. Alternate solutions with an emphasis on energy efficiency may be requested in accordance with the City Sustainable Facilities Policy. Some projects may require equipment change-outs or load calculations; energy studies may also be performed. The consultant may be required to provide emergency services on short notice and within a tight time schedule.
