The vendor shall supply iron castings and other specified items such as meter boxes, manhole covers, grating covers, valve box extensions, risers, and flanged bends. The successful vendor must have the capability to manufacture iron castings from City of Seattle drawings, have machining capability to reduce standard iron castings to specified sizes and develop molds from existing inventory items where drawings are not available, and provide excellent customer service. All castings must meet the 2023 City of Seattle Standard Plans for Municipal Construction (or the latest edition) and the American Waterworks Association (AWWA) - 2023-Standard-Plans. The manufacturer is required to supply ASTM A 48 Class 30 iron castings, except for Type 230 covers, which must be ductile iron ASTM A536 80-55-06. The vendor must cast and prepare at least two test bars for each lot of castings supplied, as defined by ASTM A 48 Section 11.1. The City of Seattle will have ownership rights to all plans, drawings, documents, and patterns created for customized products, and a copy of CAD files must be provided to the City after first use. The City does not own any molds used to create these castings; the bidder will incur all costs associated with new molds, which must be approved by City of Seattle Water Distribution and/or Water Engineers.
