March 4, 2026, at 5:00pm By Mail: DPW - 500 Dedham Avenue Needham, MA 02492 By Email: dpwbids@needhamma.gov Questions are to be clearly labeled as: QUESTIONS - Rail Trail Resurfacing, 26DPW215C Performance Bond Will NOT be Required General The Town of Needham requests bids for the resurfacing of the Needham Rail Trail, a 1.7-mile compacted stone dust walking trail that follows the inactive Bay Colony Railroad corridor and runs between Needham Junction and the Charles River. The trail has several entrance locations, and street crossings occur at Charles River Road and Fisher Street. The Contractor shall provide all labor, materials, equipment, and incidentals required to place the stone dust top course of the rail trail. The shaping, trimming, compacting, and finishing of the surface of the subgrade, as shown on the plans or as directed, shall be constructed in accordance with these specifications and in close conforming with the lines, grades, and typical cross-sections shown on the plans or established by the Town Engineer. Prior to the start of the work, the Contractor shall complete the following requirements: A project schedule outlining the timing of each part of the construction process shall be submitted to the Town Engineer for approval. The project schedule shall identify the various Subcontractors and the work items each Subcontractor will be conducting. The Contractor shall submit materials containing the following information to the Town Engineer: A. Procedures to be used in the resurfacing of the Rail Trail with regard to the division of labor and responsibility of the Contractor and all sub-contractors involved. B. Materials to be used and the proposed method of application and procedures to be followed if applicable. 1. Manufacturers Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for all coatings, paints, and dust-control sprays prior to their delivery to the site. 2. Manufacturers recommended methods of installation for all coatings, paints, and dust-control sprays, for approval prior to the commencement of the work.
