There is approximately half a mile of Class 1 track with a gauge of 3.5 feet. Equipment operated on the rails includes a 1907 Baldwin steam locomotive, a 1906 San Francisco cable car converted to run on battery power, and a 1953 Fairmont speeder, along with various passenger coaches. Operation of the railroad is the responsibility of a nonprofit organization contracted by the City, but maintenance and repair of the tracks is a City responsibility. The City is seeking an experienced contractor to inspect the railroad tracks twice annually, and on an on-call basis as needed, and recommend any needed repairs. Repairs would be made by a different contractor under a separate agreement.
