Site work for a water / sewer project in Charleston, South Carolina. Working plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The proposed work consists of maintenance dredging of 65,000 cubic yards from a 5.9 acre site to a depth of -6 feet MLW with an allowable overdepth of 2 feet in the outer entrance channel and -6 feet MLW plus allowable 1 foot of overdepth in the inner entrance channel and marina basin. The dredge material will be dredged using a hydraulic cutterhead dredge. Dredge sizes may range from a small, 6 inch dredge up to a 12 inch dredge. The material will be transported via pipeline to the Citadel Dredged Material Placement Facility (DMPF). Depending on the dredging location, up to 3,000 feet of pipeline may be required. A booster pump may also be required in combination with the dredge to transfer the sediment. The applicant is requesting authorization under a ten-year Department of the Army (DA) permit. Mobilization of the dredge pipeline and associated equipment would occur on an as-needed basis. The length of the dredging event would be dependent on the size of the dredge, with larger dredges completing the work in 45 to 60 days. Smaller, 6 dredges may be used continuously in the project area to maintain depths. As proposed, there would be no restrictions on working hours for this project.
