The Department of Land and Natural Resources said it was acting out of caution as the current owners of the Wahiawa Dam and Reservoir, Dole Food Company and Sustainable Hawaii LLC, are beginning rehabilitation work on the dam. The park will remain open for onshore activities, but the boat ramp, reservoir banks, and shores will be closed on Sunday, May 3, at 1 a.m. Mariners are urged to remove their boats as soon as possible, before the boat ramp shuts down. Goodfellow Bros. has been selected as the contractor for the project and may begin survey work as early as next week. The state said the Board of Land and Natural Resources and the Agribusiness Development Corporation (ADC) Board of Directors have approved plans for the DLNR and ADC to begin acquiring the Wahiawa Irrigation System.
