Description

Site work for a bridge / tunnel in Kasabonika, Ontario. Conceptual plans call for site work for a bridge / tunnel.

Rehabilitation for the Duke Street Bridge over Wabigoon River, located approximately 2 km west of the Duke Street/Highway 17 intersection. The structure is a double lane, single span bridge consisting of steel girders and a concrete deck supported on concrete abutments. The bridge measures approximately 24.9 meters in length and 11.0 meters in width. The deck has an asphalt wearing surface on a 225 mm thick reinforced concrete deck, with concrete barriers and a railing system of galvanized steel situated on top of the barriers. A steel flex beam guide rail system is located at the approaches. The deck is supported by five painted steel girders with steel end and intermediate diaphragms, resting on elastomeric bearing pads at the abutments. The abutments and wingwalls are constructed from reinforced, cast-in-place concrete. Significant findings include loose and broken guide rail end terminations at several corners, absence of deck drains, accumulation of gravel in expansion joints, spalling at the barrier joints, failed sealant between barriers, and spalling with efflorescence at the south exterior face of the deck at barrier joints. TIMELINE: An RFP for Engineering services has been issued by the owner. Question Deadline: April 1, 2026, at 3:00 p.m.
