https://www.mrt.com/news/article/midland-tx-lee-high-road-extension-22268485.php Midland ISD approves $11.1M road project for new Lee High campus Midland Lee High School campus under construction Midland ISD announced it approved a bid for the extension of Thomason and Avalon drives. The extensions will provide infrastructure improvements for the area around the new Midland Lee High School campus. The project is part of MISD's capital improvements development agreement with the city of Midland, in which both taxing entities will share project costs and the city will reimburse its portion over a structured, multi-year schedule. Competitive sealed bids were opened April 29, and the winning contractor is Reece Albert, which will receive just under $11.1 million for the roadway improvements. The bid is below the original project estimate of $15.1 million, saving the taxing entities about $4 million. "This project reflects the value of strong collaboration and long-term planning as Midland ISD and the City of Midland continue working together to support the future of our community," said MISD chief financial officer Tucker Durham in a statement. "These infrastructure improvements are an important step in preparing for the future Midland Lee High School project while also supporting continued growth and development in Midland. We remain committed to being responsible stewards of taxpayer resources while investing in opportunities that will serve our community for years to come." ---------------------- The work involves new roadway construction consisting of approximately 45,000 cubic yards of earthwork; 55,000 square yards of flexible base; 13,000 tons of hot mix asphalt; 650 linear feet of concrete box culvert and end treatments; curb inlets and storm sewer; 25,000 linear feet of concrete curb & gutter; 8,000 square yards of concrete median; concrete driveways, fillets, and valley gutters; and 8,000 square yards of concrete sidewalk.
