The Los Angeles Harbor Commission has approved a $46.1 million project to expand and improve the existing 22nd Street parking lot and a segment of Harbor Boulevard along the San Pedro waterfront. The scope includes expanding parking capacity from approximately 650 spaces to as many as 2,350 across roughly 16 acres, full paving, striping, lighting, landscaping, security fencing, automated gates, and installation of conduits for future electric vehicle charging. The work also includes demolition of two existing buildings, removal of rail infrastructure, construction of a new 805-square-foot restroom building, pedestrian and bicycle paths, staircases, bus or shuttle turnout areas, and expansion of Harbor Boulevard from two to four lanes with sidewalks, bike lanes, trees, and undergrounded utilities.
