The contractor shall provide all labor, equipment, rigging, transportation, repair, reassembly, testing, and startup support necessary to restore an existing motor-generator set that supports the NIST wind tunnel power system to full operational condition in accordance with the equipment nameplate specifications. Work includes disconnecting power, removing fasteners, rigging and removing the generator from the facility, and transporting it to a repair facility. The contractor shall perform incoming electrical testing; disassemble, inspect, steam clean, bake, and test the armature, field frame, shunt fields, interpoles, bearings, and housings; repair or replace obsolete brush boxes; lathe-check the armature for runout; turn and undercut the commutator; clean, repair, and balance the armature; and reassemble the generator with new bearings. The generator shall be tested at full nameplate voltage and speed, with brush holders repaired, manufactured, or procured as necessary, and brushes installed and seated. The work also includes cleaning, stoning, painting, and preparing the generator for transport back to NIST; rigging and reinstalling the generator; laser alignment to the motor; reconnecting power leads; and supporting startup activities. In addition, the contractor shall replace bearings in the motor portion of the motor-generator set, perform electrical testing of the motor field and armature, replace brushes in the main fan drive motor, and provide standby support to ensure successful startup and operation of the complete motor-generator system.
