Site work and new construction of a laboratory facility in Ottawa, Ontario. Completed plans call for the construction of a 86-square-foot laboratory facility.

The University of Ottawa requires a fully immersive, 360 projection cylinder system to enable research in locomotion, navigation, and human biomechanics within virtual environments. The system will be installed in the dedicated Virtual Reality Lab at the Faculty of Health Science's building, lab 150, and must be compatible with an existing centre-pivot treadmill and suitable for use with biomechanical recording tools such as motion capture, EMG, and IMUs. The cylinder must support realistic, real-time virtual environments that respond to participant movements and must accommodate multi-modal experimental setups, including treadmill-based gait studies and local overground tasks. The system must be a cylindrical, 360 immersive projection cylinder with high-resolution panoramic projection, a minimum output of 4,000 lumens at 4K resolution, and coverage for both floor and wall projections. The internal diameter must be at least 6 metres to fit the designated space of 85.8 m2 in Room FHS 150, and the solution must include an integrated spatial audio system, seamless projection blending, and compatibility with ceiling-mounted harness safety systems. The projection setup must be mountable on a truss or other ceiling supports and support the mounting and tracking needs of infrared and RGB motion capture cameras. The system must include a dedicated server media system for real-time VR rendering, an operator console located in an adjacent control room, compatibility for real-time, bidirectional interaction with Unity and Unreal Engine 5, and allow SDK API integration with biomechanical software such as MATLAB, Python, and Qualisys Track Manager. The proposal must include at least one year of warranty, with an option for up to five years, and must cover delivery, installation, initial calibration, testing, and on-site training for at least five users. Bidders must ensure all mandatory requirements are addressed in their submissions. Question Deadline 05/13/2026 at 3:00 PM ET Proponents should promptly examine all of the documents comprising this RFP, and may direct questions or seek additional information in writing through the University's MERX EBS System For the purposes of this procurement process, the "RFP Contact" will be: Owen Bouley Senior Advisor, Research Procurement obouley@uottawa.ca Official bid documents must be obtained from www.merx.com and bid submissions must be done through the Merx platform.
