The project aims to facilitate the relocation and expansion of the childcare centre, in order to increase its capacity and better meet the needs of the community. The new childcare centre will have a capacity of 81 children and will be housed in a building with a floor area of approximately 873 m2, constructed primarily using a timber frame. The project also includes the integration of the First Nations Preschool Assistance Programme (PAPPN), which will provide dedicated spaces for activities promoting stimulation, socialisation and awareness of Abenaki culture for children aged 2 to 5. The PAPPN will occupy an area of approximately 165 m2 within the building. Although the CPE and the FNPEP are two separate entities, the two projects will be housed in a single building and carried out under a single construction contract awarded to a general contractor. The tender documents, however, provide for a breakdown of costs to distinguish the portions associated with each of the two projects. This project is part of an initiative aimed at providing modern, safe facilities tailored to the needs of the children and the Abenaki community, whilst promoting the overall development of young children and the transmission of language and culture.
