The City of Calexico is requesting proposals from qualified engineering professionals to provide engineering design services for a Chlorine Conversion Project. The project involves converting the disinfection systems at the City's Water Treatment Plant (WTP) and Eastside Water Reservoir (EWR) from a gaseous chlorine system to a 12.5% bulk sodium hypochlorite disinfection system. The WTP has a design capacity of 14 Million Gallons per Day (MGD) and the EWR has a design capacity of 6 MGD. The conversion is prompted by safety concerns regarding the use of toxic chlorine gas in facilities located near residential areas, schools, and the Calexico International Border.
