Renovation of a transportation facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. Completed plans call for the renovation of a transportation facility.
The purpose of this project is to restore the HVAC equipment to a like-new, reliable condition, modernize control systems and interfaces, replace obsolete components, update refrigerants, and ensure the HVAC units remain compliant with applicable regulatory requirements for a minimum of 20 additional years of operation. A The UTA Bilevel fleet contains two HVAC units per railcar, each mounted in the roof area near the A-end and B-end of the vehicle. Both units operate together to regulate cabin temperature, ventilation, and air distribution. B The HVAC units include refrigeration systems (compressors, valves, coils, receivers or accumulators, piping), electric heating systems, evaporator and condenser fan assemblies, filtration and airflow switches, and a microprocessor-driven control system. C Each HVAC unit receives primary 480 VAC three-phase power for compressors, heaters, and motors; and 72 VDC control power. The updated controller shall operate within existing vehicle control logic and trainline protocols. D The overhauled HVAC units shall be fully interchangeable within the Bilevel fleet and shall utilize a common refrigerant (R-407C).
