Texas A&M-Texarkana Athletics Fresh off its move to NCAA Division II, Texas A&M-Texarkana is investing nearly $35 million in an athletics complex designed to bring several Eagles teams on campus. On July 10, Texas A&M University-Texarkana (TAMUT) was accepted into NCAA Division II. The Eagles program currently sponsors 21 varsity sports and is developing an inaugural football program scheduled to launch in fall 2027. Two sports that have thrived in Texarkana are baseball and softball, and work is currently underway to give them a permanent on-campus home. According to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR), construction is underway for the Red River Credit Union Athletic Complex, which will serve as the new home for several university teams. The complex will cover over 11,000 square feet and feature two major facilities: the Jeff Morris Addison Baseball Field and the Ledwell Softball Field. These will be the first permanent, on-campus homes for the baseball and softball teams. The baseball team currently plays at George Dobson Field, while the softball team uses Bramlett Field, both located 5 miles from campus at Spring Lake Park. The teams will move into new facilities at the complex located between main campus and University Avenue, adjacent to the existing track facility. Both fields will utilize FieldTurf with new bullpens, press boxes, an observation deck, hospitality suite, locker rooms and athletic offices. The Eagles baseball team has averaged 33.5 wins over the last two seasons, while the Eagles softball team finished No. 25 in its final season in NAIA. The Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles will have a new home in 2027. The Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles will have a new home in 2027. Texas A&M-Texarkana Athletics "It's going to be elite. It's going to be a recruiting Mecca here," TAMUT athletic director Ryan Wall said to KTAL News in 2025. "It's going to be great for the community. Keeping everybody home and having a family atmosphere on campus is great. Along with bringing families on campus instead of going off campus." New football stadium on the way Other additions at the complex will include multiple tennis courts—as the school's tennis program also played off-campus—a sports performance center, ticket booth, a food court, and an event center. A new 6,000-seat football stadium is also being built in anticipation of the Eagles’ inaugural football season in the Lone Star Conference as the school's 22nd varsity sport. According to the filing, the current phase is estimated at $18 million, while the full buildout is expected to approach $35 million. Per the filing, the complex should be complete by January 2027. "We are also leveraging support from the Texas Division of Emergency Management to build a tornado safe room," TAMUT President Ross Alexander said to KTAL. "Which will be on site and also serve as a component of the athletic complex. So it's a public-private partnership." -------------- The Texas A&M University System Office of Facilities Planning & Construction on behalf of the Board of Regents of The Texas A&M University System and Texas A&M University-Texarkana, is accepting proposals for the selection process to enter into a contract with a Construction Manager at Risk firm to provide pre-construction services such as constructability guidance, cost estimates, and construction schedules; provide a Guaranteed Maximum Price; and perform complete construction services consistent with the CMAR construction delivery process as utilized by The Texas A&M University System for the Eagle Landing Phase 4 for Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
