Site work, paving and renovation of a bridge / tunnel in South Bend, Indiana. Completed plans call for the renovation of a bridge / tunnel.

The project entails the rehabilitation of Bridge No. 215, Colfax Avenue crossing of St. Joseph River. Included in the project is the replacement of the bridge deck in Span A, cleaning and painting steel beams in Span A, removal of 1/4 inch of the existing bridge deck in Spans B through E, removing the existing sidewalks in Spans B through E, widening the sidewalks in all spans, placement of a rigid overlay on the bridge deck in all spans, repairing of cracks and patching abutments and piers, replacing the east approach slab, replacing the west approach roadway with reinforced pavement, constructing PS-1 railings between the traffic and sidewalks, constructing aluminum pedestrian railings at the back of sidewalks on concrete curb interspaced with concrete end monuments and intermediate concrete pilasters, removal and installation of new light standards on the intermediate concrete pilasters, installation of specialty lighting on the concrete end monuments, removal of existing bridge deck drains and installation of new deck drains at proposed curb lines, placement of riprap in the river, and improvements to the Colfax and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. intersection. Bids must be accompanied with a Certified Check made payable to St. Joseph County, Indiana or Bid Bond executed by the bidder and surety company in a sum of not less than ten percent of the total amount of the bid, together with a non-collusive affidavit as prescribed in Form 96, Revised 2013. The bidder awarded the contract will be required to furnish separate Payment, Performance, and Maintenance Bonds before commencing work. The Payment and Performance Bond shall each remain in effect throughout the entire construction period in an amount equal to the awarded Contract Amount. The required Maintenance Bond shall remain in effect for a period of up to five years from the date of final acceptance in an amount of 10 percent of the awarded Contract Amount. The bidder's attention is directed to the Affirmative Action Requirements, the Prevailing Scale of Wages and the Insurance Provisions of the Project. Responsible bidders may obtain a set of the Contract Documents, Special Provisions, and/or Plans for the project by mailing in a check for the non-refundable fee. The Board of Commissioners reserves the right to reject any or all bids or to accept the one which, in its judgment, will be to the best interest of St. Joseph County, Indiana. The Board of Commissioners also reserves the right to hold Bids up to 60 calendar days from the receipt of the Bid.
