Site work and new construction of a detention facility in Barhamsville, Virginia. Conceptual plans call for the construction of a detention facility; and for site work for a detention facility.
This project will address aging infrastructure within Jail East. FY27 funding proposes the replacement of damaged bathroom, duty, and control station countertops. It will also replace carpeting and cabinets throughout pods. Areas of impact include the mental health area, the medical area, booking, the processing supervisor area, offices, classrooms, public visitation, the tunnel, and administration area. Construction in FY31 aims to repair and reinforce the walls surrounding Building #8 and to install a new rooftop. Building #8 is the only housing unit without a secure roof enclosing outdoor areas. New footings, slabs, and walls will be constructed alongside the enclosure. The project is included in the County 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). As of May 4,2026, further details have not yet been identified. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
