Site work for a civil project in Savannah, Georgia. Completed plans call for site work for a water / sewer project.
The project involves providing construction management at-risk services for the UGA MAREX Seawater System Replacement located on the UGA Skidaway, Georgia campus. The system supplies seawater to the Aquarium Research Building, Oyster Research Hatchery, and Skidaway Institute of Oceanography. The scope includes new river intake piping, three new seawater duty pumps (7.5 hp each) with minor three-phase power modifications at the RV Savannah pier, a new seawater filtration system with two new pumps (3 hp each), instrumentation, control and alarm systems, as well as associated single-phase and three-phase electrical system modifications and upgrades. The system is expected to deliver 100 to 300 gpm of seawater across campus using various sizes of primarily PVC piping. The work also includes demolition and disposal of a reinforced concrete gravel filter system, a pre-engineered, wind-resistant, garage-type filtration system building, and the installation of a buried seawater distribution piping gallery approximately 1,100 feet long (200 feet on the pier and 900 feet buried), with multiple above-ground valve stations. Careful utility exploration and excavation are required to avoid conflicts with existing utilities, as some may not be shown on owner-provided drawings.
