A feasibility study has been completed, and the request for NKES is a replacement school. Renovations and/or potential additions would be extremely costly ($43-53 million) and would include HVAC, plumbing, lighting, ceilings, relocation of interior partitions, heavy amounts of finish replacement, painting, flooring, site work, school nutrition updates, and technology infrastructure. A heavy renovation of the current facility would not improve issues relating to circulation and traffic concerns in the ES/MS/HS campus area. Additional conversations have been started regarding the Highway 249 corridor and what it could be if included as part of this project request (removal of tennis courts, etc.). We have worked with the selected architect to provide estimates to the best of our ability and will continue to watch and monitor for any changes or updates required. Currently, the projected cost range of a new building is $58-$60 million. As of May 22, 2026, this project is included in the County's 2027-2031 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). It is still in the conceptual phase and a design firm has not been selected yet. A timeline for construction has not yet been established. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
