Site work and renovation of a mixed-use development in Zion, Illinois. Completed plans call for site work for a playground / park / athletic field; for the renovation of a municipal facility; and water / sewer project.
The project consists of construction of a steel sheet pile wall, dune restoration, replacement of the storm drain system, and masonry rebuild on the roof to protect against water infiltration. The steel sheet pile wall runs along the Lakeside of the building and serves to protect the building foundation from damage due to shoreline erosion. Installation includes the removal and reuse of the existing rock and concrete block, within the driving line of the wall, as backfill and/or toe scour protection. The area between the sheet pile wall and the building will be filled, compacted, graded and planted with dune grasses to restore this area to dune habitat common within the park. A timber fence will be constructed around the dune restoration area. The replacement of the storm drain system includes demolition of the existing outfall, pipe and cleanout connection to the roof drains and replacement with new clean out connection to the roof drains, pipe and outfall through the sheet pile wall. The Masonry rebuild on the roof of the park office includes removal of the existing brick above the roof termination, installation of a weather resistive barrier to the CMU back wall, flashing and transitions, and salvaged brick and coping and repointing of the CMU backup wall.
