Source sought notice only. MSHA's Approval and Certification Center performs evaluation, testing, approval, and certification of mining products intended for use in underground coal and gassy underground metal mines. Technical experts assess equipment, instruments, and materials for compliance with applicable Federal regulations, ranging from very small electronic devices to large-scale mining systems. Upon successful completion of evaluation and testing, the Center issues licenses authorizing manufacturers to produce and distribute approved products for use in mines. The approvals issued by the Center are internationally recognized. In addition to product approvals, the Center provides technical support across MSHA programs, including investigations related to approved products, litigation assistance, and accident investigation support involving explosions, fires, injuries, or fatalities where approved equipment may be involved. The Center also identifies technical solutions to mining equipment, materials, and explosives application issues; supports development and revision of Federal standards and regulations; assists other Government agencies with research programs related to MSHAs mission; and provides engineering support and technical assistance in the area of industrial safety.
