Population growth in the city resulted in the need to hire additional police officers in recent years. The City's police station, located adjacent to City Hall, has not expanded since it was constructed decades ago. This has resulted in a significant shortage of space that is negatively impacting operations. This project consists of a complete renovation of the existing police station to improve the use of the space and the flow of operations. Additionally, a new two-story Category 5 hurricane rated building is being recommended adjacent to the existing station to provide for safe operations during a disaster and room for additional growth of the department as the population increases in the future. The FY26 funding request is for a new kennel building within the compound, and the additional requested funds will be used to secure design services for the police station renovation and expansion As of May 21, 2026, this project is included in the City's 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Further information regarding a design firm and timeline for construction has not yet been established. Funding is allotted for FY 2026, 2028, and 2029. *Project information has been obtained through a public capital improvement plan (CIP).
