The latest funding package includes 339 grants for airports in 44 states and two US territories, the FAA announced on August 4, 2026. Los Angeles International Airport will receive the largest grant, with $289 million going toward a new terminal access road. Miami International Airport will receive $50 million to reconstruct part of its terminal roof. The FAA also highlighted several smaller projects, including $9.1 million to rehabilitate passenger boarding bridges and rebuild airport facilities at Akron-Canton Airport in Ohio. Juneau International Airport in Alaska will receive $4.2 million to replace snow removal equipment, while Charleston International Airport in South Carolina will receive $3.7 million for a terminal expansion. Sugar Land Regional Airport in Texas was awarded $3.5 million for runway reconstruction. The grants come through the FAA’s Airport Infrastructure Grants program, which can pay for runway and taxiway work, terminal improvements, baggage systems, airport roads, planning and other safety-related projects. The program was created under the 2021 Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which set aside $15 billion for airport infrastructure over five years. Airports receive a portion of the available funding based on passenger traffic. The FAA can also award additional money when the cost of an airport’s planned projects exceeds its annual allocation. “From our regional hubs to some of America’s busiest airports, we are investing in critical infrastructure that will provide American families with a more seamless, efficient travel experience for years to come,” US Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said. FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford said the agency was releasing the grants quickly to keep pace with growing demand for air travel. “We’re making airports safer and more convenient for travelers across the U.S.,” Bedford said. “We’re releasing grants at record speed to ensure we keep up with the growing demand for travel.” The FAA did not provide construction schedules for the projects highlighted in its announcement. The $870 million package follows a series of airport funding rounds announced earlier in 2026 for runway repairs, terminal work and other infrastructure improvements. The $870 million grant package is separate from the much larger plan announced last week to overhaul Washington Dulles International Airport. United Airlines, the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and the US Department of Transportation are working on a capital program for the airport valued at more than $20 billion over the next decade. The Dulles project calls for more than five million square feet of new or renovated space. It includes a replacement for Concourses C and D, upgrades to the main terminal and ticketing areas, more gates, expanded security screening, new baggage systems and additional lounges and concessions. The airport’s original Eero Saarinen-designed terminal will be preserved. The project would also expand the AeroTrain system and add a central walking tunnel, allowing Dulles to retire its aging mobile lounges. A new Concourse E with 14 United gates is already under construction and is expected to open in late 2026. ----------------------------- Furnish labor, material, equipment and work to expand existing apron, improve storm drainage system; install edge lights and area lights in new apron area. Work includes paving, marking, earthwork, demo, hauling, erosion control, electrical, barricade/fencing, milling, test/inspection, dumpster/solid waste removal, portable toilet, and drainage. DESCRIPTION OF WORK The Work may be generally described as the expansion of the existing terminal apron to additional Remaining Overnight (RON) parking areas. This project also includes improvements to the existing storm drainage system; installation of edge lights and area lighting for the new RON apron. All work shall be performed in accordance with CRAA and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements. All materials provided by the awarded Contractor must be new, free from defects and must meet CRAAs specifications. Bidder shall submit the make and model of materials that will be used for the work. After award of contract, no change to materials and products, except when the lack of availability is beyond the Contractors control, i.e., due to strike bankruptcy, discontinuance of manufacture, etc. Request for substitutions shall be made in writing and hall be accompanied by complete description of the substituted material or equipment. Substitution requests must receive written approval from Owner prior to being ordered and installed.
