Garvan Woodland Gardens, located in Hot Springs along the shore of Lake Hamilton, is the University of Arkansass botanical garden, under the direction of the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design. Its mission is to preserve and enhance a unique part of the Ouachita Mountains, providing visitors with a place of learning, research, cultural enrichment, and serenity. Thanks to a generous gift by the namesake donors, the new Ross and Mary Whipple Family Forest Education Center will build on the Gardens' mission and engage a broader audience by creating a place for meaningful dialogue among University of Arkansas students and faculty, statewide policymakers, and community leaders. The center will serve as an environmental education center and economic development tool focused on five main topics: the character and value of Arkansas forests; the promotion of regional forest and timber industries; the use of wood for the betterment of society and the environment; public arts education and cultural experiences; and advancing the respective missions of the Gardens, the Fay Jones School, and the University of Arkansas. The University of Arkansas is soliciting responses from qualified firms to provide general contractor construction management services for the Ross and Mary Whipple Family Forest Education Center. Per RFQ, the project cost is currently estimated at a maximum of $5.1 million.
