Site work for a military facility in Springfield, Ohio. Completed plans call for site work for a military facility.
Background: The scope of the project is to install a 1,000-kilowatt (kW) / minimum 1,000-kilowatthour (kWh)battery energy storage system (BESS), two 500 kW natural gas generators, and a 599-kW photovoltaic (PV) system. This installation will provide resilient power for essential mission functions, ensuring energy resilience to 24/7 MQ-9 Reaper operations and intelligence missions (including geospatial intelligence, space ground infrastructure analysis, electronic intelligence, and foreign material exploitation) in the event of commercial grid power loss. When connected to the grid, the PV array will provide electrical power and energy to the base, lowering electrical purchase requirements and thereby saving the base money. The natural gas generators and BESS will have the capability to provide base-wide peak power to ensure the substation operates at safe levels. The design allows the installation to island/disconnect from the utility for a minimum of 1 hour on the battery alone, but when combined with the natural gas generators and solar array, standby power could continue for weeks depending on the weather.
